How Investigations Work

TransUnion is committed to providing accurate information and welcomes your help in ensuring that your credit report is accurate and up-to-date.

Identify inaccurate data on your most recent TransUnion credit report. Contact us online, by phone, or by mail to initiate a dispute investigation.

TransUnion will initiate an investigation of the credit information you dispute.

We recommend that you not apply for credit while a dispute is pending.

Investigations are typically concluded within 30 days of the date we receive your request. TransUnion contacts the data provider that reported the information and asks the data provider to verify the information in question. If the dispute is regarding personal information (e.g., name), please provide supporting identification documentation, such as change of name certificate, marriage certificate, etc.

TransUnion documents the outcome of the investigation and makes any necessary changes to your credit report. Once your investigation has been completed, TransUnion will notify you of the outcome of your dispute.  As required by law, TransUnion will also advise credit grantors of the changes to your credit report.

If our investigation does not resolve the dispute, you may add a 100-word consumer statement to your report. Exception: 200 words in Saskatchewan. Statements should be relevant to the credit information in dispute.  Please note that TransUnion will not accept statements that are defamatory or otherwise illegal or inappropriate.  Request for statements to be added or removed should be placed in writing with your signature to:
